How to look after your flowers

I’ve just received a beautiful bunch of flowers. What do I do now?

Step 1: Remove the wrapping paper, and moisture protection.

To protect your flowers and keep them hydrated, we wrap them up in a
specially designed wrapping. You’ll need to remove everything until you can
see just the flower stems held together with the rubber band.

Step 2: Grab some scissors and trim the stems at a 45° angle.

This helps to reinvigorate your flower stems to ensure that their ends are nice
and soft and so that they can drink up any fresh water. Try to take about
1 inch (or 3cm) off the bottom.

Step 3: Grab a vase and fill it with water (just enough to cover the
stems).

Grab a vase of your choice (or the one that you’ve been gifted) and fill it with
some clean, cold water. You don’t need to fill the vase to the top - just a good
amount to cover the stems.

TOP TIP: Repeating steps 2 & 3 every few days will make your blooms last as long as possible!

Step 4: Enjoy!

Place your flowers somewhere that you can look at every day and smile. Try
to keep them away from direct sunlight or strong drafts.

Common flower questions

If you’re keen to learn more about flowers, or are a bit unsure of what your bouquet is made up of, have a read of some commonly asked questions:

Why are my roses different colours on the outside?

Often mistaken as wilted petals, naturally grown roses have their own in-built
defense mechanism, known as ‘guard petals’ (very cool hey!). They sit on the
outside of a rose and can look a little tougher, crinkled, or a different colour,
and are made to protect the soft, inner petals.

If you don’t like their appearance, you can very easily remove these outer
petals like in the diagram below:

Colour variation of roses

The roses that we use in our bouquets are all naturally grown - that means
that they can vary in colour, shape and size. Our florists will carefully curate
each arrangement to match the tones of the roses in season and the bouquet
that you have selected. Here are some of the beautiful colours of fresh roses
you might receive:

Bud to Bloom

Sometimes your bouquet may feature some flowers that are still in their bud
form. While they may look small now, they’re on their way to blooming into
their full potential. We do this to ensure that our flowers look their best when
they are in your home as opposed to when they’re with us. They’ll last much
longer, and hopefully bring you a smile for longer.
